Looking for a sign that you're on the right track? How's this for one? When we start a new campaign, we're conditioned to want immediate results. All the promo materials suggest fast gains. Society wants immediate. It's why many of us give up too early. We start expecting quick wins - when we don't get the results we want... we quit. I've been there. I'm there right now. I'm getting back into running after being hit by a car while training on my bike two years ago. So this morning Gold Coast @wellteam.me legend @aunard de Camp asked me to join him for a slow paced, longer run. It was a great run. We talked the whole way. We ran to heart rate, not speed. I felt like I wanted to go faster. I was frustrated with myself that it should have felt easier. I was frustrated that my knees were feeling strained at the end. But here's the thing. I was running. The action of doing should be the feedback. Speed, distance, all of these things are what I call 'lag' indicators. Lag indicators are outcome measures that occur over time. Lead indicators on other hand are measures of activity. If you focus on the lead indicators, the lag indicators will come. Measure the amount of any activity you are doing now compared to what you were doing. That's the important measure. Our bodies take time to adjust. They'll respond to added pressure over time. Sustainable results are only possible by building repeatable systems over time. You can get out and smash a fast run, walk, swim, cycle... but can you sustain it for the next 20 years? Build through repeated action, not a one time heroic effort. Use your journal, diary, Strava record, tick box on your fridge or Wellteam.me leaderboard as a measure of your actions, your lead indicators. The rest will follow. If you're on the Gold Coast (Australia) on Sun 26th April, join me and Aunard for a recovery walk at 7am from Lifeguard Tower 4 at Kirra Beach. See you there. Go well. Most people overthink how to improve their health and wellbeing. If you’re trying to improve your health, don’t overthink it. Start with three things: – Sleep consistency – Daily movement – Reduce or remove alcohol weekdays Most people skip these, looking for some more advanced, cutting edge and often more expensive formula. These basics solve more than people realise. How are you performing on these three? If this resonates, I write more about this here: Troy Wellteam Founder https://www.wellteam.me/insights #wellteamglobalchallenge #wellteam #livelifefully #liveyourbestlife

I exercise a lot. I push myself. Strength activities, endurance, power. What supplements do I take? Zero. None. Nada. Surely taking supplements would be better, right? Well, supplements are valuable if you are deficient in the thing you're supplementing, if you're not deficient they contribute to expensive ablutions. We often don't consider the impact of multiple supplements at the same time. The idea of 'more is better' is ingrained in us, yet it's possible that the opposite is true. Taking supra-physiological doses of vitamins or minerals is likely to overwork liver and kidneys. That's not a good thing. If you're looking for a sure-fire way to boost your health and wellbeing without having to eat healthy and/or exercise and/or spend time with friends, and/or focus on sleep and/or stop eating processed foods this is what I'd do: Significantly reduce or stop drinking any fluid other than water (unless medically prescribed). Any other beverage or liquid is likely a supra-physiological dose of something. When liquids hit, they're usually absorbed rapidly, putting added strain on body systems to process them. That's not normal... except for water. Today, maybe this week - give your body a break --> Focus on what it needs, not what a supplement seller needs. Water is the one dietary additive that's likely to do the most good with the least risk... unless of course you're drowning. Live your best life and save yourself a small fortune. Drink more water... just not the muddy stuff. Go well out there, Troy Wellteam Founder #wellteamglobalchallenge #wellteam #healthier #happier #livelifefully

Troy versus Surf Ski racing. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? When was the last time you tried a new sport, hobby, activity? As we age, we can get comfortable in what we know. We avoid challenges. Is our ego protecting us from feeling incompetent at a time in our lives where we want to feel like we're mastering life? Here's a hot tip ---> As we age, we can gravitate toward being: ⚠️ right ⚠️ great/brilliant ⚠️ in control ⚠️ free of stress We hold on tight hoping that we stay in control of 'our life'. 💡 Here's the thing. We're not in control... not even close. The world is uncontrollable. It's crazy out there and spending time trying to exert control over it is futile. Just let go. Try new things. Get outside your comfort zone and be prepared to fail. Accept that growth at any age carries a risk of failure... but failing to grow, to adapt, to learn... is the ultimate failure. Last weekend, after two practice sessions I took part in an 8km surf-ski race in a double ski with the legendary @richman_williamson It was tough. Richard was very gracious putting up with my incompetence from the back seat... thankfully he couldn't see the strain on my face. All this stemmed from a simple action... saying 'yes'... and being prepared to fail. It turns out, you can teach and old dog new tricks. In actual fact it's been proven that we can continue to build new neural pathways as we age. Something called neural plasticity. Here's something you can try tonight to open yourself to change and live more intentionally: 💪 Brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand. Start the day with this exercise and prepare you mind for accepting challenges, embracing them for learning and growth. Start your day with action, setting the standard for how you want to live life. Live life fully. Intentionally. Thanks to Richard and the whole crew at the Currumbin Creek Paddling Club. #wellteamglobalchallenge #healthier #happier #neuroplasticity #oldschoolfit

As a coach, I typically advise rational decision making. People seek a coach’s ear because they lose trust in their own decision making. But rational decisions aren't always the right ones. This week my wife and I brought a house on the Gold Coast, Australia. After 17 years in South Australia, we've moved back to Queensland. We deliberated over different houses and saw one that captured our imagination. On paper, we shouldn't have bought it. It's small, 1/3 the size of our last house. Big block of sloping, rain-forested land. A pool which we vowed we would never have, and lots of stairs to reach it. Terrible for access as we age. But it's like a treehouse - perched up high. Birds all around. It's peaceful, calm, serene. It's exciting. We'll be like the Swiss Family Robinson we grew up with. We get one crack at life. Rational decision making can be great for wealth creation... but not living life fully. Today, we often feel pressure to do things that others think is right. We worry we'll be judged for making poor decisions. Worry our 'investment' won't grow in value as much as another. When we die, none of that matters... what matters is how we lived. Rational has a strong place in the world of business... in your personal life... go wild and create as much fun, joy, pleasure, laughter, excitement and make plenty of emotional decisions. Regret typically belongs to the things we didn't do... not what we did. Live your life fully. #wellteamglobalchallenge #wellteamthinking #rethinkliving #onelifestrategies
